The Langstroth beehive is the cornerstone of all modern beekeeping. It provides a safe place for honey bees to store food reserves and raise the constant supply of young needed to keep colonies healthy and strong.
A basic configuration for a honey bee hive consists of seven components: a hive stand, bottom board, deep super/hive body, queen excluder, super, inner cover, and an outer cover. The frames with foundation are placed in the body for the bees to store honey, pollen and for the queen to lay eggs. Supers with frames and foundation are added for the bees to store surplus honey and pollen. The honey from the supers may be extracted from the frames or Comb honey which is honey left in the pure beeswax comb.
