Furthermore, the use of natural beeswax products from Dadant helps support the honeybee population while creating something beautiful. Read on to find out how you can make your own DIY beeswax candles with Dadant products!
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Before you start making your candle, make sure you have all the necessary materials. To create a basic beeswax candle, you will need:
• 1 pound of pure natural beeswax pellets or blocks (available in different colors)
• 1 wick spool
• Wick tabs (to secure the wick onto the bottom of your container)
• A heat source such as a double boiler or hot plate/stovetop
• Beeswax containers (Dadant offers glass jars and aluminum tins in various sizes)
Once you have all of these materials, you are ready to begin!
Step 2: Melt Your Wax and Prepare Your Containers
The next step is to prepare your wax for pouring into containers. This can be done using either a double boiler or a hot plate/stove top on low heat. Place the wax pellets or blocks into the boiling pot, stirring constantly until it is completely melted. Be sure not to overheat the wax; it should be heated slowly and kept at no higher than 200°F (90°C). Once it has reached this temperature, take it off the heat and allow it to cool slightly before moving on to step three. At this time, also prepare your candle containers by washing them thoroughly with soap and water. Make sure that they are completely dry before beginning step three.
Step 3: Insert Wicks Into Containers And Secure With Wick Tabs
Once your containers are ready, insert wicks into them and then secure them with wick tabs at the bottom of each container. Be sure that they are straight up in order for them to burn properly once lit. If desired, you can adjust their position after they have been secured with wick tabs by gently pushing them around with tweezers or other long tools until they stand upright inside each container.
Step 4: Pour Wax Into Containers And Allow To Cool Completely
Now that your containers are prepared, you can begin pouring your melted wax into them slowly and evenly until they are filled just below their rim lines. After each container has been filled with wax, allow them to cool completely before lighting or handling in any way; this can take up to 24 hours depending on their size and thickness of wax used.
