A hive foundation starter sheet gives the honey bees a head start with the hexagonal cell format that nature developed. The foundation starter sheet is drawn out by the honey bees using beeswax to about an inch in length for storage of honey, pollen, and to provide an area for eggs to be laid.
Plain and beeswax coated Plasticell sheets have become popular in recent years due to the time saved when installing the frame. Of course, we also carry foundation sheets made of pure beeswax. Did you know that Dadant & Sons was the first to develop the concept of including a crimp wire that runs through the sheet vertically to provide additional strength?
